Welcome to the January 2006 edition of “Leadership: It’s All About Trust.” An
on-line newsletter from Ellen Castro
that addresses leadership in today’s ever changing
world. Today’s Leaders Research indicates that engaged people perform at
higher levels. According to a
Gallop poll, organizations with engaged individuals are: ·
27 percent more likely to
create higher profits. ·
56 percent more likely to
create higher customer loyalty. ·
50 percent more likely to
have lower turnover. While consulting here and abroad, engaged individuals
radiate consistent traits. These
traits include: ·
A “can do” motivated
attitude. ·
Solution
focused. ·
Team
player. ·
Understand their role and
are accountable. From my experience, the number one determining factor
for engagement is the immediate manager.
Thus, today’s leaders know that to engage others, they
must: ·
Be trustworthy and
credible. ·
Listen and
learn. ·
Respect and trust
others. ·
Provide the feedback,
tools and resources for success. ·
Be engaged themselves. Today’s leaders choose to motivate and inspire in
every single moment, in every single way. Questions for Reflection Am I engaging? What two behaviors can I model today to be more
engaging and engaged? The choice is ALWAYS yours! Feel free to share this with a colleague or
friend. Your comments and thoughts
are always appreciated … I am always learning. Until next time, choose wisely. Ellen
Castro is a bestselling author of Spirited Leadership … 52 Ways to Build Trust
on the Job. She holds an EdM
