Yes, leadership is about bringing out the BEST in your followers which then gives your organization THE competitive edge.  THE competitive edge is the PEOPLE and their PASSION.  People develop the newest, most innovative technology and/or product.  And in the service industries where there are no tangibles, the followers create the memorable experience that keeps customers loyal and coming back.

 

Based on my fifteen years coaching and consulting in five countries, leadership is about helping people feel good about them selves so they can be their BEST to help others be THEIR best.  People who are at their best tend to be happy.

 

HAPPY FOLLOWERS = Less Absenteeism and Turnover Costs = More Trusting Relationships, More Collaboration, Innovation and Productivity = More Professional and Personal Fulfillment = MORE SUCCESS

The Seven Basics for Helping Your Followers Be Their BEST and Be Happy are…

 

  1. Know their name.
  2. Look at them in the eyes … be fully engaged and CONSCIOUS when interacting…give them your FULL attention.
  3. Truly LISTEN to what they have to say and integrate that knowledge.  (If you know someone is allergic to chocolate, do not give them a chocolate cake for their birthday … a real example … yikes.)
  4. Seek their input and then follow-up.
  5. Say “please” and “thank you” … model common courtesy.
  6. Give praise and recognition.
  7. Be kind … kindness shows REAL strength.

 

Today’s leaders choose to create an environment where followers are at their BEST in every single moment, in every single way.

 

 

Questions for Reflection

 

Are you happy being a leader?  Are you passionate about your people and your ability to make a positive impact?

 

Are your followers happy that you are their leader? 

 

 

The choice is ALWAYS yours … choose wisely.

There are NO neutral acts.
