October 2010 It’s All about TRUST

An on-line newsletter from Ellen Castro

Change happens. I have been on the receiving end of 2 severance packages. One was a result of a “right-sizing” when the oil and gas industry plummeted in the 1980s. The second time happened due to the company being acquired. “Why me?”  “Life is unfair.” “What did I do wrong?” “I need medication.” They give an indication of my state of mind. As I look back, there was a bigger picture.

Because of the re-organization, I got to go to Harvard for a second Masters. The acquisition threw me into the consulting business since I couldn’t find a “real” job. Today I love my career, I love my life.

What’s my point? If you or yours are going through a transition, here are some of the lessons I learned that might help:

  • Trust the process. There is a bigger picture.

“Though I walk through the valley of death, I do not have to build a house there.” Louise Hay

  • When you think you are “done”… live from the possibilities. Who would have guessed that after shattering my head on the glass ceiling I would earn a degree from Harvard and be a global people smarts coach?

“Never limit your view of life by any past experience.” Ernest Holmes

  • Shift your focus. It’s all good, just sometimes better.

“We either make ourselves miserable or we can make ourselves strong. The amount of work is the same.” Carlos Castaneda

  • There is no failure, only learnings. Learn the lessons. Let go the past. Step into the present and create a glorious future one thought, one action at a time.

“The key to your universe is that you can choose.” Carl Fredrick

  • Your worth is not established by your position or earning capacity. You have worth simply because you exist.

“If you knew who you really are, you’d be star struck.” Victoria Moran

  • Dare to be great!

“Be yourself; everyone else is taken.” Oscar Wilde

Change is inevitable. Thriving is a choice!
