Welcome to the December 2005 edition of “Leadership: It’s All About Trust.” An
on-line newsletter from Ellen Castro
that addresses leadership in today’s ever changing
world. Today’s Leaders Today’s leaders know there are truths that span
cultures, religious backgrounds and perceived differences. One such truth is the Golden
Rule. Buddhism:
Hurt not others in ways that you yourself would find hurtful. (Udana-Varga 5:18) Christianity:
All things whatsoever ye would that men should do to you, do ye even so
to them; for this is the law and the Prophets. (Matthew 7:12) Confucianism:
Surely it is the maxim of loving kindness: Do not unto others what you would not
have them do unto you. (Analects
15:23) Hinduism:
This is the sum of duty: Do
nought unto others which would cause you pain if done to you. (Mahabharata
5:1517) Islam:
No one of you is a believer until he deserves for his brother that which
he desires for himself. (Holy
Quran) Judaism:
What is hateful to you, do not to your fellowman. That is the entire law; all the rest is
commentary. (Talmud, Shabbat
31a) Taoism:
Regard your neighbor’s gain as your own gain and your neighbor’s loss as
your own loss. (Lao
Tzu) Zoroastrianism:
That nature alone is good which refrains from doing unto another
whatsoever is not good for itself.
(Dadista-i-dinik 94:5) Thus, today’s leaders know … ·
All actions have
consequences. ·
There are NO neutral
actions. ·
They reap what they
sow. ·
In light of this truth,
they know that all they need is LOVE. Today’s leaders choose to emulate the Golden Rule in
every single moment, in every single way. Questions for Reflection What am I currently reaping? What would I like to reap now and in the future? What must I choose to do
differently? The choice is ALWAYS yours! Wishing you and yours the most joyous of holidays and
a wondrous, laughter filled 2006. Feel free to share this with a colleague or
friend. Your comments and thoughts
are always appreciated … I am always learning. Until next time, choose wisely. Ellen
